Work schedule and conditions

The riveter typically works 8 hours a day. The work schedule is Monday to Friday. Weekends are Saturday and Sunday. This is usually factory work. Remote work is not available. How to become a climber

You can become an industrial rope-access technician without a degree. What matters is practical skill at working at height — scaling structures, rigging and managing your safety ropes, and checking your own work. The role is safety-critical, so you'll need an industry rope-access certification (IRATA) and a valid medical and working-at-height assessment.

1. Rope-access certification (IRATA)

The fastest credible route is an IRATA Level 1 rope-access course, typically a week of training and assessment. It teaches safe rope and rigging techniques and is the certification employers in industrial access work expect.

2. Professional progression and tickets

For work on industrial sites you'll also need a CSCS card and the relevant safety inductions, and you progress through IRATA Levels 2 and 3 as you log experience. Higher levels confirm your competence and open up more demanding, better-paid work.

3. On-site experience

You can start as a trainee or assistant on site, under experienced technicians, building the supervised rope hours your certification requires. A medical and working-at-height assessment is needed before you're cleared to work. It's the cheapest way to learn the trade hands-on.

The fastest way in is an IRATA Level 1 course backed by a CSCS card and the right safety inductions. From there you build logged hours on site and progress through the IRATA levels to take on more demanding work.
