You can become a caster without a degree. It's a skilled foundry trade where practical skill with molten metal, moulds and casting equipment matters most. No licence is required, but hot-work and safety training are essential. The fastest route is an apprenticeship or on-the-job training.

The quickest entry is starting as a trainee in a foundry. Over a few months, under an experienced caster, you learn to work with moulds and melting furnaces safely and build the skill the job demands.

2. Apprenticeship or vocational course

A foundry or process-operations apprenticeship gives deeper knowledge and practical skill, including working with different materials. It runs over a longer period and combines theory with supervised practice plus a recognised qualification.

3. Trainee roles without experience

Many foundries take on trainees without prior experience. While training, you gain valuable practical skills and safety knowledge working directly alongside experienced casters.
