Work schedule and conditions

The tower assembler works 8 hours a day. Usually from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM. The weekends are Saturday and Sunday. The work is mostly performed at enterprises or construction sites. How to become a tower erector

You can become a tower erector without a degree — it's a skilled trade learned mainly on site. The fastest route is on-the-job training with a construction, rigging or oil-and-gas employer, or a short course. Because you work at height you'll need a CSCS card to be on a construction site, plus working-at-height and (for rigging) lifting/rigging training, along with a medical for fitness to work at height.

1. On-the-job training

The quickest way in is to start as a trainee with a steel erection, rigging or oil-and-gas firm and learn within the crew. Employers arrange your CSCS card, working-at-height and rigging training and the medical needed to work at height, and you can pick up the basics within a few months.

2. Short courses and tickets

Short courses in working at height, rigging and slinging, and scaffold or steeplejack work last from a few days to a few months and lead to the tickets and CSCS card this trade requires. They cover safe assembly and the height-safety rules that are mandatory for the role.

3. Trainee role without experience

Many erection and oil-and-gas firms take on trainees with no experience and train them on site. During training you learn to work safely at height under experienced erectors and complete the courses needed for your CSCS card and working-at-height certification.
