How to become a yeast technician
You can become a yeast technician quickly — no degree needed. It's a hands-on role in yeast and fermentation production, growing yeast and checking quality. As the work involves food production, you'll need a Level 2 Food Hygiene certificate.
1. On-the-job training
The fastest way in is to join a yeast or fermentation plant as a trainee. Under experienced staff you'll learn the technology of growing yeast, operating equipment and checking quality right on the production line.
2. College or training-provider course
Colleges and training providers prepare fermentation-process operatives in a few months, covering the basics of microbiology, fermentation technology and hygiene rules; afterwards you can apply for a graded role.
3. Work placement on site
Many sites take on trainees with no experience. On a placement you learn the production stages, hygiene requirements and safety rules in practice, then move into a permanent yeast-technician role.
